Tennis champion, Serena Williams‘ husband Alexis Ohanian Sr has reacted to the contentious cartoon of his wife being drawn by Herald Sun cartoonist Mark Knight after her outburst at the US Open saying that ‘It’s blatantly racist and misogynistic’.
In the cartoon, the tennis legend was illustrated as a baby angrily jumping on her smashed racket. Her husband who seems unhappy with the act on his Twitter said:
‘I am truly perplexed to learn this editor of the Australian newspaper behind the blatantly racist and misogynistic cartoon of my wife is a “Male Champion of Change”,’
Responding, Herald Sun editor Damon Johnston defended the cartoon saying:
‘A champion tennis player had a mega tantrum on the world stage, and Mark’s cartoon depicted that. It had nothing to do with gender or race’ .
I am truly perplexed to learn this editor of the Australian newspaper behind the blatantly racist & misogynistic cartoon of my wife is a “Male Champion of Change” 🤔 Is this supposed to be satire, too? @malechampions @LizBroderick https://t.co/QAq25HAhTo https://t.co/jOuYojCE3P
