Nigerian governors to hold emergency meeting

State Governors will reportedly gather for an emergency meeting on Thursday to deliberate COVID-19 vaccination and distribution in Nigeria.

Spokesman for the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, said the meeting would be held virtually.

“The meeting is of a single-item agenda, which will discuss the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccines and their distribution in the country,” he confirmed.

Bello-Barkindo explained that the meeting, according to the invitation sent to the governors, would commence at 5 p.m.

This comes after the federal government received 3.92 million doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine on Tuesday which was shipped into Nigeria via the COVAX Facility.

The partnership is between Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), GAVI – the Vaccine Alliance, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and World Health Organization (WHO).
