My mother was ostracized after my father died because she refused to marry his cousin – Nigerian author narrates

Romeo Oriogun, the Nigerian poet and author who won the 2017 Brunel International African Poetry Prize narrated how his mother was hated after his father’s death because she refused to marry his late father’s cousin.

He said that he and his other siblings were taken from their mother, which left his mother always travelling from Ipetu-Ijesha in Osun State to see them in Benin for a year.

Romeo disclosed that his mother who his new book is dedicated to, died at the age of 43 while pregnant with the child of a man who promised her a house if she gave birth to a son for him.

He wrote;
