A 28-year-old man, Victor Eke, stabbed his father for asking him to stop smoking and was arraigned before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on Friday.
The defendant is standing trial on three counts of breach of the peace and assault but pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, said the defendant committed the alleged offences on December 6, around 9:20 p.m., at No. 1, Oloruntobi St., Isheri Oshun, Lagos as he unlawfully assaulted his father, one Mr Chris Eke, by stabbing him with a kitchen knife, which caused him bodily harm.
The complainant allegedly accosted the defendant while he was smoking, cautioned him but he took it in a wrong way and stabbed him.
Aigbokhan said the offences contravened Sections 168, 172 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. He ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State government.
He adjourned the case until Feb. 7, 2022 for mention.
