A 33-year-old man, Omoloye Olajide has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for stealing N3m and, given a fine option of N110,000.
The Magistrate, Abdulhameen Lawal of Ekiti State Magistrate’s Court, Ado Ekiti, sentenced Olajide to three years’ imprisonment for conspiracy to commit stealing and also sentenced him to seven years’ imprisonment on count two for stealing the sum of N3,195,825 belonging to BOVAS & Co. Limited.
The convict was arraigned alongside two other defendants – 40-year-old Kayode Olofin and 31-year-old Adenike Oguntade – for conspiring to commit the offence between 10th and 13th of October, 2016.
The police prosecutor, Samson Osobu, said the offences were contrary to and punishable under sections 516, 390 and 419 of the Criminal Code Cap. C16, Vol. 1, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
While Olajide, who was the third defendant in the matter pleaded guilty and was sentenced, Olofin and Oguntade pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Lawal consequently adjourned the matter of the first and second defendants till October 14, 2021 for continuation of trial.
