Kurt Zouma opens up on real reason he left Chelsea

West Ham United defender, Kurt Zouma, has opened up on why he left Chelsea this year to join the Hammers.

The centre-back who joined Chelsea in the summer of 2014 under Jose Mourinho’s regime said he left Chelsea for West Ham because he wanted a different challenge.

The 26-year-old spent time out on loan at the likes of Stoke City, Saint-Etienne and Everton in a bid to get his career back on track.

Explaining his decision to exit Chelsea, Zouma told the Evening Standard: “I wanted something different. A challenge. We won a title last year with Chelsea and I wasn’t in the starting XI at the end. I wanted to be somewhere where I could compete for that, playing week in, week out.

“Things happen. It is destiny. A new manager came in and he made choices and everything was working well for us. I wasn’t in the starting XI as often as I would expect to be. This is the manager’s choice and he made them right, obviously. As a player, I have to accept it. This is in the past.”
