Heavy rainstorm kills three, destroys properties in Imo

No fewer than three persons lost their lives on Friday after rainstorm wreaked havoc on Obinze, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.

At least 35 electric poles, two church buildings and a brewery depot were destroyed by the dangerous wind along the Obinze-Umuokanne road which left no fewer than 12 persons wounded.

The source said, “The raging wind dismantled no less than 35 electric poles along the Umuokanne-Obinze road. It also claimed three lives and destroyed two church buildings and a brewery depot.

“Another building that collapsed is a beer depot belonging to a businessman in the area. We have not seen this kind of havoc before. This is very unfortunate and the losses are huge.”

Police spokesperson of the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed that only one death was reported to the police.
