Ex-Super Eagles Defender Taye Taiwo Joins Finnish Club RoPS

Former Super Eagles defender, Taye Taiwo, has linked up with Finnish Veikkausliliga outfit Rovaniemi Palloseura (RoPS) on a one-year deal.

Taiwo, who once had stint with another Veikkausliliga side, HJK, last featured for Swedish club AFC Eskilstuna.

He has featured for top European clubs; Marseille, AC Milan and Dynamo Kiev.

Taye is a clear leader and winner on the field. I have known him since our time together with HJK,” RoPS head coach Toni Koskela told the club’s official website.

He is a very physical player and a good football player. Taye has a strong left foot shot, so he will be excellent match for our special situations as well.

The 32- year-old stated that the decision to join RoPS was an easy one for him after he was contacted by Koskela who was the assistant coach during his time with HJK.

I was motivated to work with him again. This is also a real dream job to be a soccer player. You can never know which country you are going to find the next day, and now I can bring my expertise to the Rovaniemi Palloseura,” Taiwo said.

He also spoke about his attributes as a defender.

He said: “I’ve already learned that you can not win every match, but each match can give everything.

” In the field, I do not like to give the opponent room to play, I do not want to give the adversary the pleasure they can control, but I want to be the one who plays and controls.
