Veteran Nigerian musician John Asiemo, popularly known as Daddy Showkey, has said national featherweight champion, Taiwo Agbaje, is the future of Nigerian boxing.
Daddy Showkey, a schoolboy boxer himself, on Sunday said this after he paid a surprise visit to Agbaje in the UK during his training session and backed the boxer to follow in the footsteps of fellow countryman Anthony Joshua to become world champion.
“I’ve got a big surprise for you all; I am live here with Agbaje, the future of Nigeria boxing. I came to see the future champion,” Showkey said in the video.
“I have always prayed to God to take Esepo out of Nigeria, the boy is a gift from God but Nigeria never really appreciates his talent,” Showkey added in a chat with Sunday PUNCH, NEWSCASTARS.COM learnt.
“I have always attended his (Agbaje) fights and I can tell you that he has the gift to become world champion like Anthony Joshua.”
“There are so many boxers in Nigeria but we have killed boxing in our country. Now, I am in Europe and I want to revive boxing and other sports. I am going to build a gym in Mushin, Ajegunle and some other areas in Lagos.
“We are going to start discovering talents again because many of the boxers in Nigeria have turned to thugs used by our politicians. We need to look for a way to diversify our energies to something positive. This is my plan and I want to save Nigerian children by giving them hope.”
